A camera system was designed and developed in order to measure additional details in surveying works such as windows, doors heights of buildings or even larger and more complicated environments.
The Stereo Camera system was developed using a wooden pole of half meter long, where two GoPro hero 10 action cameras where installed.
The two cameras are triggered simultaneously using the GoPro remote control.
In a controlled environment camera calibration was performed for the stereo camera system. This performed in order to estimate the base line, actually the relative orientation of the two cameras and also the cameras inner parameters.
The system was tested in a real work environment and the results are very accurate. e.g. for a distance on the object of 14 meters the accuracy is of 1cm and sub centimeter for smaller distances.
